DRINK ME.

After the release of Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” [3-D!] it seems as if the world can’t get enough of Lewis Carroll’s classic piece of literature.  With a legendary actor such as Johnny Depp healming your project, it’s no wonder the public can’t get enough.  The guy can inhabit any character in front of him!  For years now, “Johnny Depp Characters” have been some of the most requested “costumes” throughout the year!

Published in 1865 (”Alice Adventures in Wonderland”) this piece of masterfull story telling has spawned more ”remakes” than the ”Saw” movie franchise!  Carroll himself continued the adventure with “Through the Looking-Glass” in 1872.  Most of the “filmed” adaptions combine these two stories into the now well known version.

Right now next to Tim Burton’s version, the Disney classic animated movie (1951) will be the version most people will remember.  Actor and voice over extraordinaire Ed Wynn (voice of the Mad Hatter) might be the only actor to give Johnny a run for his money.

Well…that is until “Phantasmagoria” comes out in 2010.  Directed and starring vocal-visual performance artist Marilyn Manson as Lewis Carroll himself, promises to be something to behold I’m sure!  Like Mr. Manson or not - he is sure to entertain!  (I for one greatly enjoy him!)

Other versions include the stop motion “Alice” (1988) Directed by Jan Svankmajer (I read that this film makes you feel as ‘insane’ as Alice herself), Paramount’s 1933 version starred Mr. Cary Grant.  In the 30’s he WAS the Johnny Depp of his time!  A PBS version in 1983 starring the talents of Richard Burton.  (see picture)  Even “Hello Kitty” got into the action with “Hello Kitty & Friends in Alice in Wonderland” made in 2004 by ADV Films.

It’s not just the medium of film to use this storyline as it’s subject of entertainment.  The world of computer games has released “American McGee’s Alice” in 2000 which takes the players into the famous underworld.  I have never played it but have read that this version is NOT for the kids.

The world of music even got into the act very famously with “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane which was released on their 1967 album “Surrealistic Pillow”.

Needless to say I could go on and on with different “versions” of and about this most famous of stories.  This is the year to “get your Alice on” in a big way!  And just think when you let HalloweenMart [.com] help you become the character of your choice - Mad Hatter, Red Queen (or Queen of Hearts), White Queen, Chesire Cat, Tweedle Dee or Dum, (or Diddle Dee) Playing Card or even Alice herself - you won’t even need to swallow the “Drink Me” bottle or fall down any holes!

Here at Halloween Mart you are NEVER LATE for that VERY IMPORTANT DATE!!!
Until next time…Happy Haunts!
