Happy Birthday…Mother!?
Guess who’s had the big 5 0 this week?
Â
Here are a few quote hints:
Â
“You, you eat like a little bird.”Â
Â
“We all go a little mad sometimes.”
Â
“…I’m not even going to swat that fly.”Â
Â
Don’t know? Okay, this one should help you for sure…
Â
“A boys best friend is his Mother.”
Â
Okay. For those of you who still might be stuck…this one should do it for sure…
Â
“Blood. Oh, God Mother! Blood!!”
Â
YOU GOT IT! These are all spoken by the infamous character “Normal Bates” in the classic Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece…

Â
“PSYCHO“Â and this film just turned 50 on Wednesday, June 16th, 2010.Â
Â
And what a bash it was, I’m sure.

One of those types of parties, where you scream…or I mean, sing at the tops of your lungs.Â
Â

Â
Like so many others, this is one of my favorite films of all time. What compliments can I say for this film that haven’t already been said? Probably nothing. It’s pure perfection from the first frame to the last credit.Â
Â

Â
The raw performances of Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh and Vera Miles are nothing short of method brilliance. You physically and mentally get so sucked into this film, it’s unavoidable to not actually ”feel” the terror, violence and at times, empathy each character [actor] brings to the screen.
Â
Â

Boasting the most terrifying “shower scene” from any film, this movie did for ’standing and bathing’ what “JAWS” did for the beach and going into the ocean.
Â
From the moment ‘Marion Crane’ decides to take the money, to the moment she is murdered - all the way to wondering if ‘Norman Bates’ is nuts, or is that really a skeleton “Mother” rocking in the chair…this film takes hold and never releases its grip.
Â

In 1998, director Gus Van Sant made a frame by frame remake starring Vince Vauhn, Anne Heche, Julianne Moore, Viggo Mortensen and William H. Macy. Most people hated it. I actually loved it and would have many a good thing to say about it as well. Not to the degree of the original, of course. But I did like it…a lot.
Â
So happy big 50th day to the best of the best horror and psychologically disturbing celluloid has to offer!!
Â
Until next time,

Stay out of the cornfields, you never know what might be hidden inside.
