A Nightmare on Elm Street  Remake is COMING!
Â
Lately in the horror genre, REMAKES of classic horror films have become some of the most anticipated ”must see” films.  As a life long genre enthusiast, I am usually one of the first in line on opening night!  Seeing how different film makers add new life and utilize the latest technology is a thrill.  Although I personally enjoy these films, watching many of them over and over again - I usually end up still loving the original film best. After all - you don’t become a classic for nothing!!  The 1970’s and 1980’s spawned some of the best loved horror films of all time and seem to be the decades a lot of the remakes are coming from.  To name only a few:  ”The Amityville Horror”, “Children of the Corn”, “Friday the 13th”, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “My Bloody Valentine” (redone in 3-D!), “Prom Night” and the Wes Craven (my favorite director) masterpiece, “The Last House on the Left”. Even iconic horror Director John Carpenter (who has created some of the best horror films of all time) hasn’t escaped this new “re-make” fad. “Halloween” , “Halloween II” (both by the wonderful Rob Zombie) and “The Fog” have all been redone.  New films are being added to this list daily it seems.  The newest classics to be “re-touched” are the George A. Romero film, “The Crazies” and of course, “The Wolfman” starring Benicio Del Toro. The commercials and publicity campaign for “The Wolfman” have been plenty - I’d be surprised if you haven’t seen at least something about it. One of my favorite parts of any film being remade is the NEW Poster Art that gets created.Â
Below is a sample of new poster art for the films mentioned above:      Â

Interesting Fact: Remakes aren’t really a “new” thing to do. After the 1931 “Dracula” and “Frankenstein” became instant classics, ‘Hammer Studios’ remade all sorts of “Dracula” and “Frankenstein” films from 1950 way into the 1970’s. Campy and usually over the top, these “remakes” still remain a frightful delight for genre fans. You might not see the traditional storyline or makeup job - BUT you will be entertained!!Â

Thus our mini trip down REMAKE LANE comes to a close.  Have no fear - we will visit it again soon! Until then, keep the lights on and keep checking under that bed!Â
The blog started with one of the “Kings” so I might as well end with him too…
Â
“1, 2 Freddy’s coming for YOU…3, 4, better lock your door…5, 6, grab your crucifix…7, 8, better stay up late…9, 10, NEVER SLEEP AGAIN!”
Â
- Traditional “jump rope” song from the ”Nightmare on Elm Street” films. Usually spoken in attempts to keep “Freddy” away!!Â
